மேல் மாகாண சமூக சேவை திணைக்களம் மற்றும் மேல் மாகாண முதியோர் ஒன்றியம் இணைந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்த "முதியோர் தின நிகழ்வு இன்று கொழும்பு தாமரைத் தடாக அரங்கில் நடைபெற்றது. இந்நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்டு உரையாற்றும் போதே அவர் இவ்வாறு தெரிவித்தார்.
முதியோர்களின் கலை நிகழ்ச்சிகளுடன் நடைபெற்ற இந்நிகழ்வில் மேல் மாகாண செயலாளர் பிரதீப் யசரத் உள்ளிட்ட அதிகாரிகள் பலர் கலந்து சிறப்பித்தனர்.
அங்குத் தொடர்ந்தும் உரையாற்றிய ஆளுநர்;
முதியோர் இல்லம் ஒரு நல்லதொரு வேலைத்திட்டம், வெளிநாடுகளின் பணம் செலுத்தி முதியோர் இல்லங்கள் நடைமுறைப் படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. தனது பெற்றோரைப் பார்த்துக்கொள்ள யாரும் இல்லாதவிடத்து, பிள்ளைகள் பணம் செலவழித்தாலாவது, பெற்றோரை நல்ல முறையில் பராமரிக்க ஆசைப்படுகின்றனர். அதி உயர் தர முதியோர் இல்லங்கள் மூலம் நல்ல இலாபங்களை ஈட்டமுடியும். எமது நாட்டில் கூட பிள்ளைகள் வெளிநாடுகளில் உள்ளதால் முதியோர்களைப் பராமரிக்க முடியாமலுள்ளது. ஆகவே ஐந்து நச்சத்திர தரமுடைய ஒரு முதியோர் இல்லத்தை எம்மால் உருவாக்க முடியுமாயின், நான் நினைக்கிறேன் பணம் செலுத்தி தனது பெற்றோரைப் பராமரிக்கப் பலர் தயாராகவுள்ளனர்.ஆகவே இந்த வேலைத்திட்டம் மேலும் விரிவாக்கப்படவேண்டும் என அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.
English:Arrangements should be made to send at least 25 elders on pilgrimage to their respective religious destinations such as Dhammadiva and other foreign religious destinations, observed Western Province Governor A.J.M. Muzammil on Monday.
The governor was addressing a gathering at the Nelum Pokuna in Colombo on Monday to mark the International Day of Older Persons which is observed on October 1 each year. The event attended by the Chief Secretary of the Western Province Pradeep Yasaratne, was organized by the Department of Social Services of the Western Province Council in association with the other elders’ federations in the province.
Since the children are working abroad, the governor said, it has become a practice to keep their elderly parents in various care homes so that they will be looked after well. There are many Sri Lankans who work abroad and are willing to pay lavishly to look after their parents back home provided the organizations are prepared to provide five-star facilities.
The governor advised the organizers to concentrate on setting up good homes for the elders so that they can not only be helped but also the maintenance expenses could be covered from the children who want to look after their parents well.
