A.M. Jemeel, who was appointed as the deputy national organizer of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, joined the United National Party and was appointed as the organizer of the party's Kalmunai Electorate and the Coordinator for the Tamil and Muslim regions of the Eastern Province, while commenting on his political change to the media.
He further stated;
The Muslim community can no longer allow itself to be led down the path of destruction by ethnic politics.
After the death of National Leader M.H.M. Ashraff- we have to ask what is the good the society has achieved so far due to the fact that leaders from outside the Eastern Province came here under the guise of Muslim identity politics, talked about racism, incited people, looted votes and did racist politics.
Everyone should realize that if we fail to self-evaluate this, our society will have to face more massive consequences.
At a time when the ethnic problem was on the rise, the late leader MHM Ashraf considered the needs of the community and formed the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and saw success in it.
But no one can deny that in his late years, he established the National United Front as a replacement for the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Party and started the national politics with the far-sighted idea that the continuation of ethnic politics is not healthy for the society.
In the current situation of the country, the need for the Muslim community to move ahead with national politics rather than caste politics is felt more and more.
I firmly believe that through national unity and coexistence, the Muslim community can live uprightly with equal rights like other races and the future of our young generation will be bright.
Keeping these in mind, I decided to embark on a political journey in the United National Party.
Although there are many national parties in the country, compared to other national parties, only the capitalist United National Party is the party that can embrace Muslims.
That is why, before the emergence of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Muslims have been supporting the United National Party in large numbers.
In the first Presidential Election faced by the Muslim Congress, We all know that Leader Ashraf had not only decided to support Ranasinghe Premadasa, who contested as a candidate in UNP, but campaigned hard for his victory as if it were his own election, and we all know that he won that victory.
In such a situation, the United National Party has the power to rebuild the economy of the country that has fallen into the abyss. He has been chosen as President by the Parliament because of the realization that the leader, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, is the only one.
No one can easily forget that the shortage of fuel and gas in the country brought the country to a standstill and even our mothers stood in queues for these. Even children don't get milk. There was also a massive shortage of essential food items.
Ranil Wickremesinghe, a leader with internationally recognized diplomatic connections, took over as President in such a difficult situation and brought these problems to an end.
Due to his wisdom, humanitarian aid from international countries is available to our country. The President's unrelenting hard work will also lead to IMF assistance. With this, we can see the signs of solving the country's economic problem in a few months.
It is in this context that I have decided to join hands with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and continue my political journey in the United National Party with the aim of developing the Eastern Province in the interests of the community.
Especially the United Nations. Together with prominent people like Daya Gamage, Anoma Gamage, etc., we are planning to start a new chapter that will build Ampara District and the entire Eastern Province against racial discrimination.
Based on this, I was recruited by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as a member of the executive committee of the United Professional Forum, an intellectual organization of the United National Party, 03 months ago.
Currently, I have been appointed as the organizer of the Kalmunai Electorate of the United National Party and the Coordinator for the Tamil and Muslim areas of the Eastern Province.
Having assumed these responsibilities, I have started work plans to lead the party to victory in the Eastern Province in this local government election.
It is to rebuild the United National Party which has faded away in the region
I know it will be a very challenging and difficult journey. However, there is hope that this journey can be successfully carried forward with God's help.
Therefore, I appeal to all the people, including the youth and intellectuals, who hope for a change in the East, to join hands with me with confidence, as we have seen political change in the nation.
At the same time, I would also like to inform you that under the leadership of Senior Professor M.I.M.Kaleel who took the lead on behalf of the lecturers for the establishment of the South Eastern University, activities are being carried out to integrate the intellectuals and academicians in the Eastern Province with the United Professional Forum of the party - he further mentioned.
